Artist: Wendy Tanner

Title: I do like to be beside the seaside

Year: 2023

Materials: pipe, ceramic tiles, glass

Dimensions: 190cm x 100cm x 35cm

This sculpture is a representation of my enduring fascination with the beauty and mystery of the ocean. Consisting of three totem poles, each distinct in its design yet harmoniously tied together by a shared sea theme, this work seeks to evoke the enchanting world that is found on our fragile coastal fringe. The mixture of glass and ceramic tiles in layers of colour reflect the undulating waves, diverse marine life, and the tranquil depths of the ocean. These totem poles invite the viewer to reflect on their own memories of being beside the sea.
