Antone Bruinsma is an Australian-based sculptor with more than 35 years of professional experience. He started carving wood at the age of 10, after winning a wood chisel set. A year later, he moved to Australia with his family from Amsterdam, Holland.
After Art College, he held positions on the Warana Festival Committee (Brisbane), the Crafts Council (Queensland) and Society of Sculptors Queensland (president 1983—1985), to promote public art and sculpture in Queensland and Australia.
His primary goal is always to present meaningful sculpture for public display. Antone’s motto is “blossom with the beauty of natural stone”.
He uses archetypal and mythological imagery, related to the environment and the community in which the sculptures will be placed.
Antone’s work is stimulating, iconic and designed to capture the public’s attention and imagination.
We wish to acknowledge and pay respect to the Arakwal people of the Bundjalung Nation,
the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet and work.
