Microbats are among the most endangered animals in the world but very little is being done to protect them, perhaps because they are wrongly feared.
These beautiful creatures are pollinators, seed dispersers and insect predators, and they can consume thousands of mosquitos in a single night.
They roost in small colonies in cracks, hollows and under bark but when their habitat is destroyed they will roost in our roof spaces, eaves, woodpiles - or perhaps a bespoke microbat house, typically made with a landing pad beneath and a small aperture in the bottom.
Microbats live in a world of sound. These tiny creatures depend on sound for navigation and communication and, just as humans are recognizable by their voices, individual bats make their own unique vocal sounds.
