Title: Respecting Home – Garimaa Jagun

Year: 2021

Materials: Ochre on canvas secured with natural fibres

Home. My grandmothers country, filled with various natural ecosystems, niches and cultural sites of significance hidden within the built up areas of our coastal town. My country, Arakwal Jagun is very special, its where the rainforest meets the sea, the birds nest onshore and our natural environment is secured within National Parks. This work highlights the natural colours of my homeland and to be respectful to Country. Respecting its beauty, bounty and boldness. I have created a piece to reflect country within the layers of ochre from country. The dots and lines represent sites, journeys and country as a whole, tied together by our traditional fibres we all can CARE FOR COUNTRY.
