Mangroves are essential in stopping eroding riverbanks. Their incredibly shallow root systems still maintain their vertical stems, withstand storm surges, and in fact protect each other. Their above-ground roots slow down water flows and encourage sediment deposits that reduce coastal erosion.

Samantha Moss lives on Bundjalung Country, a contemporary sculptor whose works range from ephemeral outdoor installations to ceramic organic forms, responding to patterns and elements within the landscape.
She investigates the natural and manmade markings that connect us to site and the impact of humans on the land. Her visual representations are site specific and influenced by the rhythms and cycles within life.
Current works explore the use of unfired clay, symbolising our temporal and transient existence and drawing attention to the rapid loss of native species and habitats.
Moss is the Founding Artistic Director of the ‘Brunswick Nature Sculpture Walk’, where she works collaboratively in the landscape with artists sharing unique and thought-provoking voices.
