A SCULPTURE PRIZE OPEN SPECIFICALLY FOR THE WORK OF A FEMALE SCULPTOR OVER FIFTY.
Donated by Christina Khumari, a longtime sculptor, goldsmith and artist, practicing in the Byron Shire since 1991.
The life of many artists is lived for love, not money or glory.
The creative process is what makes most sense in this world, it seems to me. The act of creation is certainly the most personally rewarding, if at times also challenging.
Many women have spent their time and lives looking after others, shaping themselves to others’ expectations, without time to make much money or art. And we all know there is rarely much financial reward in the practise of art.
So here is a small balancing of the scales, an acknowledgement of the dedication and inspiration of older women who are practicing artists.
The “Live Long and Prosper” prize goes to a female sculptor over fifty. It is a nonacquisitive prize donated and decided by the donor,
Christina Khumari
